Following an intriguing response from Peter Shackelford to one of my earlier posts, I've decided to try lasagna gardening on part of our allotment. We have two allotments at the moment, and while one is dug up, composted and partly sown, the other hasn't seen much progress except for a bit of weed clearance (with garden shears, not digging at all). The theory is that by covering up the ground with organic material, newspaper, kitchen waste etc. in much the same way as in nature, the soil is fed by the waste material. I've seen a lot of glowing reports of success with this type of gardening, so hopefully we'll have one allotment traditionally grown and one using the new method. I hope to have some pictures to show of our progress over the next few months...
