Random poems on a Friday afternoon....

Here's to all who've been pestering me that I always let Jonathan post. I've finally been inspired by a random poem written for my dear little sister Jessika, by our good friend Helena. You've done a great work, Helena....here's lookin' at you, kid!

Jess was too busy to write her Christmas letter, and i am severely bored at work today, so here is Jessika's (late) Christmas letter.....

Dear Everyone,

Back in Chilly Janury
I Did what was then customary
Went to a party New Year's Night
and Drank until my head was light
The met with the constabulary...

February was spent in jail
'til George and Drena paid my bail

I was so grateful to them both
resolved to be no more a sloth
I started helping with their mail

Licking stamps in March I found
there was no end to the great mound
Drena's post went on forever
and I feared that I would never
find myself back overground

In April I heard there was a ball
For George and Drena and them all
And George's Gopher would be there

With his blue eyes and Golden hair
At the great glamorous city hall

May came, the ball was soon to be
No invite came for little me
Drena locked me in the shed
and with a cackle turned and said
"With HIM, you cannot have SP!"

The ball was on the 1st June,
but my despair had come too soon
Grace Doris came to rescue me
(she's actually a fairy, see..)
My man and I danced dusk 'til noon...

July, Drena was still outraged
At the stunt that Grace had staged
'My little slave won't get away
if she thinks a wedding is on the way...'
But already we had got engaged...

In August we had laid our plan
Escape to Gretna in a van
We thought we had it all worked out
We'd planned our exit and our route,
We'd hide out with the Doris clan...

September came, the time was now
No pause for fright would time allow
In dead of night we found the van
But George had got to know our plan
He caught us and we had a row!

October, I was feeling blue
Everything had fallen through
They locked my Gopher in the she
Where rats and mouses shared his bed
and My prison was the downstairs Loo.

November, and a sudden crash
awoke me, then there was a flash
Grace was there, inside my loo
bekoning me to jump in too
I dived and landed with a splash

December, hereth end my log
Once I was rescued from the bog
We got married at the Gretna inn
But when I started kissing him
My man turned out to be a frog...

Here's one to my dear colleagues and the angelic side of our profession...

The Proverbs 31 Nurse

By Lois Sigmon Turley, RN

Who can find a good natured Nurse?
For her price is far above silver and gold.
She seeks medicines and skills,
and works willingly with others.

She gives of herself
and considers her own desires last.
A heartwarming smile is hers,

and is made beautiful in her eyes.

She girds herself with honor
and strengthens her ability with patience.
She perceives that her work is good.
Her candle does not go out by night.
She lays her hands upon understanding.

She stretches out her hand to the poor;
yet, she reaches forth hands to the needy.
She is not afraid of sorrow,

for her trust is in God.
Pride and humility are her clothing,
and she shall rejoice in time to come.

She opens her mouth with comfort,
and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
Her associates rise up and call her blessed;
her patients also praise her kindness.

Many daughters have helped others,
but you excel them all.

Favor is deceitful,
and beauty is vain.
But a Nurse that
fears the Lord --
She shall be praised!

And to the less angelic side....

Nurse Prayer
Unknown Author

Dear Lord, Grant me the Serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
and the Wisdom
to hide the bodies of those Doctors
I had to kill because they pushed me too far...
